Books and Breakfast
Wednesday, July 23 at 10:00 am
Summer is often travel time, so we'll share some good titles for "armchair
traveling" and our recommendations for the best books for "real
travel." What are your favorite books that have taken you to far away
places in your imagination or have inspired you to make plans to take a
trip? Spend some time over breakfast foods and coffee talking about reading,
our favorite pasttime. No reservation is necessary. All book lovers are
welcome.
Conversation Salon
Wednesday, July 23 at 1:00 p.m.
A conversation salon is a great way to share ideas with others in an informal
setting on any topic of interest. Have you seen a recent newspaper article
you'd like to talk about? Are you concerned about the effects of rising
gas costs on the economy? We welcome newcomers and new thoughts to our monthly
salon where we enjoy a relaxing time of civil discussion on issues of concern.
Join us for a lively discussion. No reservation is required.

Boomer Bibliophiles...for cats and chicks who love to read
Begins Thursday, August 14 at 7:00 p.m.
A new book club is getting underway at Northland Public Library. We will
read current highly acclaimed fiction and non-fiction from authors of the
Baby Boomer generation (those born 1946-1964). While we'll focus on the
Boomer generation, readers of all ages are welcome. We will meet at 7:00
on the second Thursday of every month at Northland Public Library, beginning
August 14th. Our first book is The Yiddish Policeman's Union by Pulitzer-Prize
winner (and ex-Pittsburgher) Michael Chabon. Publishers Weekly called it
a "murder-mystery speculative-history Jewish-identity noir chess thriller".
Call 412-366-8100x113 to request a copy, or use the
online
catalog to reserve a copy online. For September, we will read The Last
Lecture by Randy Pausch and Jeffrey Zaslow. We hope to see you Thursday,
