In early 1983 Northland installed a coin-operated Apple II+ micro
computer for public use. The computer included 2 disk drives, a color
monitor and a dot matrix printer. The charge was $1.00 for 15 minutes
and for an additional charge patrons could reserve time on the computer.
Patrons were required to pass a proficiency test to be permitted to
use the computer.
Today the library’s many computers are free to use, with Microsoft
Office 2003 and 2007 and high speed internet connections, CD burners,
some DVD burners, USB ports, black & white and color printers, and
a digital scanner. Free wireless internet service is also provided
to use with your own laptop. Northland's computer center has trained
staff to assist you anytime the library is open, and we offer a wide
variety of free computer classes each month.
