About Us: Borrowing Policies
Northland Public Library issues cards to individuals who desire to borrow our materials or access our services. The cards are issued in good faith and cardholders must accept and be bound by the accompanying rights and responsibilities. Northland reserves the right to suspend privileges if library policies are violated.
- How to get a library card
NEW: Get
a library card online now!
All residents of Allegheny County are eligible for a free Northland
Library card. You may use your card at Northland, or any EIN member
library.
To get your card, please present a valid form of identification with
your current address at one of the circulation desks in the library.
Residents of other Pennsylvania counties may also receive a free card
if their home library participates in Access PA. Others are welcome
to purchase a membership at the current rate. Children and young adults
(under age 18) must have a parent or guardian sign their library card
application.
By signing an application for a child or young adult, the parent or
guardian grants that child permission to access all materials in the
library, including the internet. The parent or guardian also accepts
responsibility (including financial responsibility) for all materials
checked out with the child’s card. Please remember that you are responsible
for all library materials borrowed on your card.
Notify us immediately if your library card is lost or stolen! We will
block your card so that no one else may use it. There is a $1.00 fee
for a replacement library card.
- Loan periods
Videos, DVDs, magazines and pamphlets may be borrowed for 7 days. All
other library materials may be borrowed for 21 days. There is no limit
on the number of items you may check out at one time.
- Renewing items
All items may be renewed two times, unless they have
been reserved by another user or are a part of the bestseller collection. Reserved items cannot be renewed. Material
may be renewed over the telephone, in person, or through our online
catalog.
- Reserving items
Items that are currently borrowed by another user may be reserved over
the telephone, in person, or through our online catalog.
- Overdue fines
Videos, CD-Roms, DVDs and phonics kits: $1.00 per day
All other library materials: 25˘ per day
The maximum overdue fine for any one item is $10.00 with the exception
of paperback books, which carry a maximum fine of $5.00. Fines are charged
only for days that the library is open.
